Jazmin DeJesus: Unstoppable entrepreneur

«The best thing I thing, I ever did was believe in me!»

The desire to undertake can appear as an outburst that pushes us with great force to make the decision to become independent, without wasting time, convinced that the opportunity presents itself once and the moment to do what we are passionate about has arrived.

This euphoria can fade when it’s time to step out of your comfort zone, quit your regular job, forego your salary, and assume that you will now be an independent entrepreneur.

Jazmin DeJesus, Managing Market Mentor at MONAT Global, walked that path in 2018, when she resigned from her duties as Medical Interpreter at Temple University Health System, after 9 years and six months in that position.

Although she had founded Lashes By Jazmin in 2014 and Lash Artist Salon in 2017, for her to take the next step of becoming completely independent, it took courage and fortitude to take on this challenge with maturity, security and self-confidence.

What it happened since then is an escalation of opportunities that she has managed to take advantage of, always having her objectives very clear: To grow as a successful businesswoman in the beauty, hair and face care area.

«The best thing I thing, I ever did was believe in me!» She said.  For this reason, Hispanic Media, our parent company, invited her to participate in the Latina Summit 2020 to talk about her experience in the area of self-employment in the face of COVID-19.

Jazmin DeJesus said  in that conference, before 2018 she would not have thought about risking my own business and she was very involved in her regular jobs. Then she started dividing he time with my business until she dedicated 100% to it.

Reinventing yourself in the midst of a pandemic

The experiences of those first years as an entrepreneur helped her to face the unexpected challenges that the Covid-19 pandemic brought to the global economy. Where appropriate, close its stores and adjust its business model to the restrictions imposed by the city of Philadelphia.

Jazmin DeJesus admits that getting through 2020 wasn’t easy, but it’s all about learning. Her business closed from March to July, due to restrictions. She had a breath between August and November. But the city faced the second wave of the coronavirus, the last month of that year.

This time, she was able to prepare a little better in the digital perspective. Her business has mutated into a virtual window, even so, it is still a challenge.

«I felt a moral dilemma of not selling products online that no one should be working, so I wanted to play my role in maintaining the security of everyone but also we couldn’t provide services. It was definitely a challenge».

The resources were limited, and she has to really dive into her network marketing business, which thankfully flourished during that time, because there were so many people much like me that could only rely on that income.

«People wanted that beauty experience or wanted to feel good while they were at home. So they were investing in their self-care, in their hair care, and in their facial routines, and doing things to make themselves feel better.

She took that time to educate and send proper emails and just keep updated with what they were doing. She probably got about 30 percent back. But at least in this time she was able to develop her online training and build up her online store.

Always optimistic

Her secret is to always stay optimistic. She began with that attitude this year. Inspired by motivational phrases that she shares with her 5,200 Instagram followers (@jazmin.dejesus_). By way of reflection, she also challenges them to exchange entrepreneurship strategies. Here we share you five of them:

  1. When you write your goals down, do you also write down steps on how to achieve them? Tell me, what is one step you are taking to get closer to a goal?
  1. Don’t let your comfort zone control you or the size of your life.
  1. There are two things you are in full control over – your attitude and your effort.
  1. Become obsessed with your passions and goals. Tell me, what are you passionate about?
  1. Never apologize for being ambitious, passionate and strong minded! It is important to stay focused on your goals!
  1. It’s only when you comprehend and accept the bigger picture and reality does your life go beyond being ordinary.

«When you’re building your business and you have to get creative and you don’t have that money, I’m always thinking like a network marketer: there are other people building their businesses with the services that you might need”, she said.
